چکیده
The formation of defects within additive-manufactured (AM) components is a major concern for critical structural and cyclic load applications. Thus, understanding the mechanisms defect in fusion-based processes important prescribing appropriate process parameters specific to alloy system selected processing technique. This article discusses metal additive manufacturing, namely solid-state/sintering processes. Defects observed include lack fusion, keyhole collapse, gas porosity, solidification cracking, solid-state surface-connected porosity. types are sintering porosity improper binder burnout. also defect-mitigation strategies, such as postprocess machining, surface treatment, postprocessing HIP, eliminate detrimental properties from as-built condition. use noncontact thermal, optical, ultrasound techniques inspecting AM considered. final section summarizes knowledge gap our components.

Metal Additive Manufacturing: A Review
This paper reviews the state-of-the-art of an important, rapidly emerging, manufacturing technology that is alternatively called additive manufacturing (AM), direct digital manufacturing, free form fabrication, or 3D printing, etc. A broad contextual overview of metallic AM is provided. AM has the potential to revolutionize the global parts manufacturing and logistics landscape. It enables dist...
متن کاملResidual Stress in Metal Parts Produced by Powder-Bed Additive Manufacturing Processes
In this study, residual stresses from the electron beam additive manufacturing (EBAM) and selective laser melting (SLM) processes, due to repeated thermal cycles, were investigated. Residual stresses play a crucial role in part performance, and thus, it is critical to evaluate the process-induced residual stresses in AM parts. Ti-6Al-4V and Inconel 718 parts produced by EBAM and SLM, respective...
متن کاملAdditive manufacturing for in situ repair of osteochondral defects.
Tissue engineering holds great promise for injury repair and replacement of defective body parts. While a number of techniques exist for creating living biological constructs in vitro, none have been demonstrated for in situ repair. Using novel geometric feedback-based approaches and through development of appropriate printing-material combinations, we demonstrate the in situ repair of both cho...
متن کاملApplication of Additive Manufacturing in Marine Industry
The advantage of additive manufacturing (AM) (e.g. reasonable time and expense in prototyping, and reliable product) has triggered the idea of using this method in manufacturing of marine vessels components. The current article tries to introduce basic concepts of AM method and its application in marine industry; have a glance at additive-manufactured parts microstructure; elaborate the challen...
متن کاملCharacterization of Metal Powders Used for Additive Manufacturing
Additive manufacturing (AM) techniques can produce complex, high-value metal parts, with potential applications as critical parts, such as those found in aerospace components. The production of AM parts with consistent and predictable properties requires input materials (e.g., metal powders) with known and repeatable characteristics, which in turn requires standardized measurement methods for p...
